Parking citations are written to a vehicle found in violation of a county ordinance or state statute, and, by law, are the responsibility of the registered owner of the vehicle. It is important, for this reason, that the registered owner complies with the directions and within the time period specified on the ticket. Failure to do so can result in late penalties, a registration stop, having your car or tag impounded, and referral of past due citations to a collection/credit reporting agency. Such troubles can be avoided, however, by taking action within the time specified.

Newer technologies have been implemented in recent years to facilitate access to information you need and to help you account for your parking tickets on time. Access via the Internet is one example (at www.miami-dadeclerk.com), and the voice response system is another (call 305-275-1133). Both systems are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and are beneficial to those who want to pay by credit card or who would prefer to inquire about their tickets at night or on weekends. Another system that helps us, as well as the public, is the computerized ticket issuing system that has been in place since 1995. This system allows us to retrieve citation data more quickly and accurately because reentry of the data has been eliminated. The ticket issuing system also alerts officers of vehicles reported stolen and of scofflaw vehicles that should be towed, and thus enables the officers to quickly take appropriate action.
