The Technical Services Division is responsible for the support and maintenance of the Clerk’s network infrastructure, the internal in-house developed and/or third party acquired systems, Intranet/Internet applications and associated systems and the overall supervision of the mainframe-based databases.  We proudly can declare that our organization has all of its locations linked via a high-speed County WAN (MetroNet) that allows for the sharing and access to any and all of the Clerk’s Office Information Systems.  In addition, this connectivity provides efficient access to the mainframe, e-mail and Internet/Intranet environment.

The network infrastructure is composed of:

  • Fifteen (15) office locations, eight (8) local area networks (LANs) and the County’s Wide Area Network -WAN – (MetroNet) tying it all together.

  • Twenty-six (26) servers including twin IBM RS6000 machines with associated SSA Drive cages, Backup Tape Library and High Availability Cluster Multi Processing (HACMP) capabilities.

  • Over 600 personal computers and more than 200 printers.  All of these devices are  connected to LANs, which are linked to MetroNet.

  • Mixed Novell Netware and Microsoft Windows NT Server platforms.  Netware delivers     access to Clerk’s Information Systems, desktop management and virus protection, file & print sharing and remote access capabilities.  Windows NT provides access to email, Internet and the mainframe.

The Clerk’s Office Information Systems are hosted by a diverse group of hardware platforms including mainframe, mini-computers, servers and stand alone PCs. Currently, there are over FIFTY (50) of these systems as follow:

  • Internal in-house developed systems:

►Two ORACLE: County Recorder’s Index and Data Entry System and the  Financial Data Warehouse System which provides historical tracking and reporting of payment transactions.

Ten FOXPRO:  File Tracking systems, Evidence Vault systems, etc.

►Nineteen RBASE: Cash Bond Systems, Witness Payroll System, etc.

  • Third-Party acquired systems: Cash Management PC-based System, NCR 10000 Recording Cash Management, Child Support System (INFORMIX database), Voice Response System, ID Badge System and Computerized Parking Ticket Issuing System (Hand-held PC/Printers  and PC-based)

  • Mainframe systems:  Nine

  • Intranet/Internet applications/systems:  One Internet and three Intranet applications

Other Responsibilities:  Auto Rental Agencies On-line Access through FTP downloads and Help Desk – All calls regarding software or hardware purchases, requests, grievances and/or problems are handled by the division’s help desk staff.  The personnel in this area record all these petitions/complaints into an in-house developed e-mail-based tracking application.
