What
types of cases are heard in Traffic Court? What
is a criminal traffic offense? A criminal traffic offense, such as driving under the influence, fleeing a police officer or leaving the scene of an accident, requires a court appearance and it carries with it criminal penalties which may include a fine, court costs and/or the possibility of a jail term. Persons charged with a criminal offense will receive a notice of hearing sent to the address listed on the charging document.
What
is a civil traffic infraction offense? A civil traffic infraction is a non-criminal charge that can be disposed of by payment of a civil penalty, requesting a court hearing, or election of a defensive driving course. A court appearance is not required, except in cases where the violation involves serious bodily injury or death of another person.
How
soon after issuance must I pay the ticket? Upon receipt of a traffic ticket issued to you for a civil infraction, you have 30 days from the date of issuance to satisfy your obligation. Failure to satisfy your citation(s) by selecting one of the options within 30 days of the issue date will result in the suspension of your driver's license and will require the payment of late fees.
What
if I have moved since I have received the ticket? You may submit an address change in person at any Clerk's Office location or by mail to the address listed below.
Where can I call to obtain information regarding my ticket?

* 1-5 M.P.H./Payment required only on speeding in a School Zone. Note: You may receive a reduced fine and a withhold of adjudication by attending the Child Restraint Offender's Program
C. Request a Court Hearing
Failure to complete court ordered traffic school or failure to pay court costs will result in your driver's license being suspended until compliance requirements are met.
What
action can I take if I have received notice of a ticket that I never
received? Can
someone else appear in court on my behalf? Will
Miami-Dade County tickets affect my out of state driver's license? How
can I tell if court appearance is mandatory in my case?

Participants must bring their child restraint seat to class. C.R.O.P. is available only once in a lifetime. Points are not assessed when defendants complete C.R.O.P. Once

What
can I do if I cannot attend my scheduled court hearing? You may file a motion of continuance by mail or in person at least five days prior to your scheduled court hearing. What can I do if I did not attend my scheduled court hearing?
What
to do if you are given a ticket for a criminal traffic violation or if
you are arrested for a criminal misdemeanor offense and are released on
a promise to appear? Appear in court on the date and time of the notice you will receive a mail. Be sure that the address on your driver's license or arrest form is correct. The police officer will use this s your address and if it is incorrect, you may not get your court notice. If you discover after the officer gives you the ticket or arrest form that it does not contain the correct address call the Clerk's Office at 305-275-1111 for traffic tickets and 305-275-1155 for misdemeanor charges as soon as possible and give the deputy clerk the correct address or go to the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building or any of the district court locations and fill out a change of address form. You may also submit your change of address by mail to the Clerk of Courts, County Court Division, and P.O. Box 02-5450, Miami, Florida 33102-5450. If you do not appear in court at the correct time and place, the judge will issue a bench warrant. Anyone with a bench warrant can be arrested at any time by any police officer. Home | Online
