Authorities Warn of Fake Red-Light Camera Ticket Scam
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is warning that there are false red-light citations that have been circulating recently. State officials advise that if you receive a notification, claiming that you have been caught on camera running a red light and demanding payment online, it may be linked to a scam.
These fake red-light citations appear legitimate, often with a department’s logo attached, directing motorists to pay the fine using the hyperlink provided. The link opens to a payment page that threatens repeated late fees and license suspension if payment is not received.
If you have received a citation that you suspect may be bogus, please contact the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles by calling (850) 617-2000 during business hours or visiting the department online at http://www.flhsmv.gov. Tickets can also be checked online through Miami-Dade Clerk of Courts by visiting our Traffic Online System.
